Pertussis: The latest pertussis report is posted on our website: Statewide, the incidence of pertussis is similar to before the 2011-2012 outbreak. However, Dane, La Crosse, Winnebago and other counties reported increased pertussis activity during July 2015.

Wisconsin Immunization Data: Our website has been updated to include immunization rates for Wisconsin children, adolescents, and pregnant women. Reports and maps of immunization rates in Wisconsin can be found here:

National Immunization Survey-Teen 2014: The results for the 2014 National Immunization Survey-Teens is now available at Wisconsin made significant improvements in the vaccination of males aged 13-17 years. The percentage of males with at least one dose of HPV increased from 30.5% in 2013 to 49.3% in 2014.

Pregnant Women: Tdap and Influenza Vaccination Rates: ACIP recommends pregnant women receive Tdap and influenza vaccines during every pregnancy to prevent severe illness and complications among mothers and infants. Using health insurance claims data, we recently evaluated Tdap and influenza vaccination rates among insured pregnant women in Wisconsin. The results can be found on our website and in a recent CDC MMWR article. After the February 2013 ACIP recommendation that all pregnant women receive Tdap during every pregnancy, Tdap vaccination rates increased but appeared to plateau at rates similar to influenza vaccination rates. Tdap and influenza vaccination rates were lowest among women who were aged <20 years, insured by Medicaid, delivered to Nurse Practitioners or Midwives, and resided in Milwaukee County. Prenatal care providers are encouraged to strongly recommend Tdap and influenza vaccination during every pregnancy and use resources developed by the CDC to educate patients about the importance of vaccination during pregnancy.

NEWIC received a grant to place three billboards along Hwy 41.  The billboards are a great reminder that the HPV vaccine is cancer prevention.

The Northeast Wisconsin Immunization Champion award is given to a professional who demonstrates a strong commitment to increasing immunization levels through education, advocacy, and leadership in their organization or local community.  These dedicated professionals help reassure parents, educate staff, and advocate for people who need vaccines in their local community.

This year’s award goes to Joyce, Osieczanek, CMA at Aurora Clinic in Sheboygan, WI.

She was nominated by Cindy Vander Weele, Public Health Nurse for Sheboygan County.  Cindy wrote in the nomination, “Joyce had advocated for many years to develop a local Immunization Coalition so that health care providers from area clinics, businesses, schools, the family resource center and Head Start could collectively share education and promote vaccines in our county.  She has been a cochairman of Sheboygan County Immunization Coalition since its inception in 2011.”
